Aortic Pathology

Aortic pathology was treated with open repair until the early 1990s. In 1991, Juan Parodi, of Buenos Aires, Argentina, published his first monograph using a minimally invasive (endovascular) approach to abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. In 1994, the Division of Vascular Surgery at NYU became one of the first 10 centers in the United States to adopt this technology in an FDA-sponsored protocol to determine if this minimal invasive technology would be advantageous for patients. Since then, the Division of Vascular Surgery at NYU has remained a leader in all areas of clinical investigation for aortic disease. Over the last 20 years, the Division has participated in nearly all major clinical trials to further knowledge in the treatment paradigms for patients with aortic disease. Currently, NYU has emerged as a leading center for treatment of aortic disease and is a training center for endovascular management of abdominal and thoracic aneurysms.
