Peripheral Arterial Disease

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) is perhaps the most important marker for occult coronary artery disease as well as an important cause of leg pain. Smoking, diabetes, and hypercholesterolemia can all be contributing factors. The NYU Division of Vascular and Endovascular Surgery has a wealth of experience in treatment of PAD and specializes in new and innovative technologies such as laser and "silverhawk" atherectomy procedures as well as crypoplasty. Moreover, we are one of the only centers in the tristate area with access to drug-eluting stents as part of clinical trial protocols. These stents are coated with special medicines that, over time, may prevent scar formation and re-occlusion of the stent.
